Gelsemium sempervirens
( Carolina Jessamine )
| This evergreen vine has trumpet-shaped, yellow flowers and is very drought tolerant. The plant climbs by twining in a counterclockwise fashion and is perfect for an arbor, trellis, or even trained as an espalier against a wall. Flowers bloom in the spring, sometimes early summer and are slightly fragrant. Grows well in full sun or part shade in an area protected from cold winds. Native to the southeastern portion of the US as well as Mexico and Guatemala. If vine becomes too big for space, prune to shape after flowering. |
