Liriodendron tulipifera
( Tulip Tree )
| This tree is cultivated for its stately growth habit, unusual foliage and tulip-like, late spring flowers. Leaves are bright green, squarish and lobed at the tips, hollowed at the bases, with pointed lobes on each side. Flowers are pale yellow-green and cup-shaped, to 2 1/2 inches long. Great for creating shade where there is none, this fast growing tree does not get that wide considering its height. Not suggested for small properties. May be brittle during ice or wind storms. |
